How did 10KSB help you?
Before I started the 10KSB program, I wasn’t clear on the roles and responsibilities between me and my staff. I now have a better understanding of the management structure that works best for my businesses. I also now understand how to really read my financial statements and have a better understanding of how to use the monthly reports in making decisions for my company.  

What is one of the biggest challenges you face in your business? 
Finding, hiring and keeping the right staff has been really tough. But I have a better idea of the type of employee that I’m looking for and now I do a much better job with the onboarding process because of my 10KSB education. 

What do you enjoy about being a small business owner?  
I am really enjoying the process of building what I imagine. Before, I didn’t understand how to take my ideas and make something of them. And now to see that I can generate income and have growth beyond just the SoCal area — all from a simple idea! It’s the best feeling! 

Since graduating from 10KSB, is there an accomplishment that you are particularly proud of achieving?
Since graduating from 10KSB, I opened 3 more businesses – in different industries than my first original business. All 4 businesses are successful and making an impact in the communities that they serve. And I am able to run all 4 businesses as a newly elected Commissioner for Los Angeles County! As a County Commissioner, I am able to help other small businesses grow.
