Nic's first job was an aquarium installation trainee at Michael Jordan's house in Chicago. As co-founder of Infinity Aquarium Design, he is on track to surpass his milestone sales goal he set 5 years ago when he went through the 10KSB program.

Westcoast delivers apparel and other merchandise to large retailers such as Macy’s, JC Penny, Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco Wholesale, and Target.

Michelle Manire took a leap when she left her stable hotel management position and created her own conference and event planning company, Coast to Coast Conferences and Events (CTC). Originally from Denver and a graduate of University of California-Los Angeles, Michelle worked her way up the corporate ladder with two hotel chains to become general manager.

10KSB has helped me to pay more attention to the metrics and realize the importance of culture. I still find the growth plan format we learned during the training useful to this day.

10KSB has given me the confidence to step fully into my position and focus on growth. I have learned to focus on strategic planning and long-term relationship building and get my eye on the end goal — to raise the value of the company and work towards my exit plan.

I always knew my company was unique within its industry. The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program gave me the methodology and tools to set goals. My differentiators became my strengths and my company began to be noticed. I properly established my brand within national retail channels such as Home Depot, Amazon and Grainger. With that foundation, I was able to become a major supplier to companies I never would have had the idea to go after such as, U-Haul, Airbnb and various startup businesses.

I left college after two classes, and even though I was able to start and grow my business there were a lot of basics I just didn’t know. 10KSB gave me a crash course in many of these areas, but the most exciting thing 10KSB gave me was an invitation to stop working “in” my business and start working “on” my business. It seems so clear now but at the time my mind was blown. I still need to be reminded of this idea on a regular basis, but the little work I’ve been able to do in a short time now has had a big impact in many areas.

One of the things I learned through the 10KSB program was to be patient with the process! Being a results-oriented individual, I set aggressive goals for the business and then got impatient when we didn’t reach those goals in the time I had anticipated.

The Growth Plan helped me zoom in on what was really most important and most profitable for my business. After graduating from the 10KSB Program, I have found time and time again, “Help” from 10KSB Faculty or Alumni that has proven to be invaluable when it comes to my company’s growth and protection.

The program was very helpful to me as I was used to being part of a $350M organization and then started out on my own in the worst economic downturn in American history. I used every training module like it was water in a desert! Most important for me was the accounting/finance sections. I was excited to learn how you can leverage your business and grow it. The day-to-day accounting KPIs were extremely helpful to see again. KPIs are key to running a successful business for all!

We (Robert and Casandra) have an interesting perspective on 10KSB. Since we own two companies, we were both able to, as married partners, benefit from the 10KSB program and receive information from two totally different places and perspectives.

Networking is important to me. I’m happy to meet new people and learn from their experiences. Even if someone is in a different field you can still learn from their business perspectives.

The 10KSB Program helped me learn to work on my business and not in it. Before being in the program, my business would come to a screeching halt if I took any time off. 10KSB helped me hire the right employees and put systems in place that allow me to focus on big-picture opportunities instead of getting bogged down by the day-to-day. I no longer handle any customer service, accounting, or purchasing and try to focus as much as possible on growing the business.

In honor of the parade’s 2018 theme, “Making A Difference,” Vobecky was selected as one of three riders to represent a real-life example of the company’s commitment to improving the lives of its customers, team members and communities it serves.

Brian’s growth opportunity during Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses included moving to a larger space to make room for more staff and new services. LBCC Cohort 14, Brian Espinosa, Optimism Entertainment, noticed for creating more jobs in the South Bay.
