How did 10KSB help you?
The Growth Plan helped me zoom in on what was really most important and most profitable for my business. After graduating from the 10KSB Program, I have found time and time again, “Help” from 10KSB Faculty or Alumni that has proven to be invaluable when it comes to my company’s growth and protection.
Tell us about a challenge you’ve faced in your business.
Growing my workforce and being able to retain the best suited employees for our services. Due to the stringent nature of my governmental and motor club contracts, Goldman Sachs 10KSB taught me the value of hiring for culture and what to look for in the screening process, even when I'm hiring entry level employees. I became more confident during my interviews that I was not going to lose the right one, or more importantly hire the wrong one.
What do you enjoy about being a small business owner?
My freedom to be as creative or innovative as I dare to be. 10KSB encouraged me to join my industry's association and more importantly be an active member. I did that and I started advocating on a statewide level. Then I experienced the National 10KSB Summit in Washington, DC. They took us to the “Hill” where the advocacy revs up. I got to spread my wings and fly. I realized I do care about this industry and its reputation, not just that of my company. I realized then the power of small business.
Since graduating from the 10KSB Program, is there an accomplishment or goal you’re particularly proud of achieving?
Being elected by our industry’s association - CTTA (California Tow Truck Association) as a Board of Director for the Los Angeles Voting District and a separate election for TROC - Towing Regulatory Oversight Council - for the towing and transportation industry of California. The combination of these positions allows me to continue advocating for statewide health insurance and benefits for our Highway Heroes (tow truck drivers).
